Vice-chancellor’s message
Welcome and thank you for your interest in Kismayo University. As a leading higher education institution, Kismayo University is proud of its academic excellence and the contributions of its graduates, staff and researchers to finding solutions to local and regional challenges.
Our degrees are internationally recognized and are structured similarly to those of the world’s great universities. Kismayo University graduates are today in every continent of the world doing their Master’s and Doctorate researches because Universities knew that they can rely on the quality of Kismayo University graduates. Each year a growing number of students who graduated from Kismayo University, having been well prepared, go on to make an impact in business, in government and the public sector as well as in nongovernmental organizations. The University promotes a holistic approach to education. Our academic activities are enriched by meaningful community engagement and collaboration with other institutions, government and business and we encourage all our students to participate in at least one of the very many arts, cultural and sporting activities offered by the University.
As we look to the future one thing is certain – knowledge will be a key resource and will be highly sought-after within Somalia and around the world. Our challenge is to help generate thoughts that will benefit society, and to educate and train people to work in fields where they will be valued both for their specialised knowledge, and for their ability to research, communicate and solve problems. To meet these challenges we need to build on the alliances and collaborative partnerships the University has established with business, government, and other research institutions.
I have constantly felt the university is not only a world of knowledge, demanding to find new ways of solving global problems, which is a very noteworthy role the university, has to play, but I also strongly feel that knowledge has to affect the neighborhood before you solve the global problems. The challenges we face right next door to Kismayo University is the most important one. The Chinese philosopher Lao Tzu (c 604 bc – c 531 bc) said “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”. And that little step is our neighborhood. And that neighborhood must feel the presence of Kismayo University. The faculties and students demonstrate the way to solve neighborhood problems and global problems shall be overcome because of the existence of Kismayo University.
