The prestigious 15th Somali Studies International Association Congress made a historic return to Mogadishu after 35 years of being held abroad. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education in collaboration with Somali National University, marking a significant milestone in academic and cultural engagement within Somalia.
A delegation from Kismayo University joined the congress, which brought together international experts, scholars, and participants from Somali regions such as Jigjiga, Djibouti, and Garissa. The congress spanned four days and was hosted at the Jazeera Hotel in Mogadishu.
The opening ceremony was graced by the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, while the closing session was presided over by the Deputy Prime Minister, H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama.
The congress highlighted critical themes such as nation-building and societal awareness. Over 30 research papers were presented, covering vital topics including:
- Leadership and governance
- Politics and security
- Language and cultural heritage
- Economic infrastructure development
The event underscored the importance of academic collaboration and knowledge sharing in addressing national and regional challenges.
As a fitting conclusion, the President hosted a farewell dinner and reception for the delegates at the Somali Presidency, symbolizing a warm send-off and the nation’s commitment to fostering intellectual and cultural growth.
