Introduction
On 4th September 2025, Kismayo University proudly held the joint 15th and 16th Graduation Ceremony at Dawad Hall, Kismayo. The event marked a significant milestone in the history of the institution, celebrating the academic achievements of hundreds of graduates. The ceremony was attended by a wide range of distinguished guests, including the Speaker of the Jubbaland Parliament and Acting President, members of the Jubbaland ministries, federal and regional parliamentarians, respected elders, Islamic scholars, directors-general, parents, and community representatives.
Opening Session
The program began with the recitation of the Holy Qur’an by one of the graduates, setting a spiritual tone for the event.
Following this, Sheikh Ali Nuur addressed the gathering, emphasizing the fear of Allah, the greatness of knowledge, and the importance of education as a guiding light for society. He further praised Kismayo University for its remarkable role in advancing higher education in Jubbaland.
Graduates’ Speech
Ms. Hamdi Ibrahim, speaking on behalf of the graduates, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Kismayo University, lecturers, parents, and fellow students. She highlighted the challenges faced and the determination that led to their success, while also encouraging her peers to contribute positively to society.
Recognition of Alumni Success
The university proudly showcased its distinguished alumni who currently hold influential positions in both the private sector and education. These included:
- Mr. Hussein Qorane, Director of Hormuud Telecom in Jubbaland.
- Mr. Haji Ismail, Manager of Amal Bank in Jubbaland.
- Mr. Liban Garaad, Owner of Mustaqbal School and a prominent social influencer.
- Mr. Mohamed Abdikarim, a graduate with special needs (deaf), who studied free of charge at Kismayo University. His inspiring story moved the audience, reflecting the university’s inclusive role in supporting all learners.
University Leadership Address
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mohamed Abdi Adam, delivered a comprehensive speech on the history and development of the university. He noted that Kismayo University is currently in a “golden stage”, expanding its faculties and programs, including:
- The launch of postgraduate programs.
- The opening of the Dhobley campus.
- Plans to establish two essential new faculties: Agriculture and Civil Engineering.
- The creation of a Research and Development Center to advance innovation and knowledge production.
Prof. Mohamed congratulated the graduates and encouraged them to pursue further education, while also playing a constructive role in the growth of Jubbaland.
Guest of Honor Address
The Chairman of the Jubbaland Parliament and Acting President congratulated the graduates, commending Kismayo University for its quality education, community service, and response to regional needs. He emphasized the importance of the new faculties Agriculture and Civil Engineering highlighting their relevance to Jubbaland’s development priorities. He further urged the university to continue its efforts in maintaining high standards of academic excellence.
Conclusion
The graduation ceremony concluded on a peaceful and high note, reflecting the prestige of Kismayo University and the unity of Jubbaland’s academic, political, and social leadership. The event not only celebrated academic success but also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to shaping future leaders, professionals, and innovators who will contribute to the sustainable development of Jubbaland and Somalia at large.
